— How it works

One AI.
Six different shopper moments.

Most popup tools fire on a single trigger — the mouse leaves the page. We watch for six distinct moments and answer each one differently. Same engine, six outcomes.

What we watch

Cart, pages, scroll, search, source, loyalty

Fast when it can be. Smart when it has to be.

For most shoppers, what they're feeling is obvious from how they're browsing. Recatchify catches those moments instantly. When a shopper's behaviour is unusual or ambiguous, our AI takes a closer look at the whole session and decides.

01

Quick read

Most shoppers fall into a clear pattern. We catch the moment instantly — before the popup even gets a chance to load.

  • • Reads the shopper's last few minutes of activity
  • • Picks the strongest match across the six moments
  • • Fires when the read is confident
02

Deep read

When the shopper's behaviour is unusual or borderline, the AI looks at the full session like a story and decides what they're actually feeling.

  • • Reads page sequence, dwell, search terms as context
  • • Explains its reasoning in plain English
  • • Only used when the quick read isn't confident enough

The 6 shopper moments, in detail

Each moment is detected differently and answered differently. No one-size popup.

01

About to leave

"This isn't quite what I came for."

What the AI watches

  • How many pages they touched before going quiet
  • Whether they switched away to other tabs
  • How far down the page they scrolled — and where they stopped
  • How long they've been on your store without moving toward a purchase

When shoppers are unusual

When their behaviour is unusual or ambiguous, the AI looks at the whole session like a story — not just one trigger — and decides what they're feeling.

What we fire

Last-chance offer, recovery modal, or a softer testimonial nudge if your brand voice prefers that.

02

Cart sitting idle

"I'll think about it."

What the AI watches

  • Items in cart but no movement toward checkout
  • Switched away to another tab after adding to cart
  • Long pause with the same items sitting there
  • Added and removed things without committing

When shoppers are unusual

A clear pattern most of the time. When the cart's small but the shopper looks high-intent, the AI takes a closer look before deciding.

What we fire

Free-shipping unlock if their cart's below your free-ship threshold, or a small bump that nudges them over.

03

Shipping hesitation

"Wait — how much is shipping?"

What the AI watches

  • Multiple visits to your shipping or returns page
  • Cart attempts that stalled before checkout
  • Searches related to shipping speed or cost

When shoppers are unusual

A signal-rich moment with an unambiguous pattern. The fast check usually catches it without the AI needing a second look.

What we fire

Free-shipping banner with the threshold filled in, trust signals (shipping speed, returns guarantee), or a direct shipping offer code.

04

Comparing price

"Let me check if it's cheaper somewhere else."

What the AI watches

  • Searches for price, discount, deal, coupon, or "compare"
  • Switching tabs without adding to cart
  • Long product-page dwell without checkout intent

When shoppers are unusual

When the shopper uses neutral search terms instead of the obvious price words, the AI reads the page sequence and tab pattern as context.

What we fire

Price-match offer, social proof ("12,000 customers chose us"), or a value-stacking benefit list.

05

Ready to buy

"OK, I'm doing it."

What the AI watches

  • On the checkout or cart page with items
  • Forward progress through the checkout steps
  • Engaged behaviour — no exit hints

When shoppers are unusual

The clearest of the six — the AI rarely needs a second look here.

What we fire

Urgency banner ("17 people checked out in the last hour") or a confidence-boosting trust micro-copy ("free returns, no questions asked").

06

Big cart slipping away

"This is more than I planned to spend..."

What the AI watches

  • Cart total at or above $200
  • Frustrated taps on the checkout or cart page
  • Repeated tab switches while standing at checkout

When shoppers are unusual

The cart-value gate keeps this one decisive most of the time. The AI takes a closer look when the cart is borderline-high and the exit signal is subtle.

What we fire

Concierge-style 10% off + free shipping, a recovery toast with the offer attached, or a hand-off to live chat if you have one wired up.

— Context matters

Same moment. Different stories.

A shopper hitting your store from a Facebook ad on their phone is a different shopper than one clicking your newsletter on a desktop. Our AI adjusts its read accordingly — competitors fire the same modal to both.

Where they came from

A paid-ad shopper is different from an email shopper.

Someone who clicked a Facebook ad is browsing for the first time. Someone who came in via your Klaviyo newsletter came back deliberately. Our AI knows the difference and adjusts how it reads them.

  • Paid-ad arrivals: softer assumption of "ready to buy" — they're still discovering
  • Email click-throughs: stronger cart-rescue intent — they came back for a reason
  • Direct or search: baseline read, no shortcut either way

What device they're on

A frustrated tap on mobile means more than a click on desktop.

Mobile shoppers face smaller tap targets and a thumb-zone full of friction. When mobile shoppers tap repeatedly or switch tabs, our AI ramps up its read on "about to leave" faster than it would on desktop.

  • Mobile shoppers with frustrated taps: stronger exit-intent read
  • Mobile shoppers with cart items + tab switching: stronger cart-rescue read
  • Desktop shoppers: baseline scoring, more dwell tolerance

How loyal they are

A VIP customer cart going idle is a different problem.

When a shopper you've tagged as VIP — or who has placed three or more orders — leaves a cart sitting, it's rarely browsing. It's usually specific friction. Our AI lifts our urgency to rescue them.

  • VIP-tagged shoppers: cart-rescue urgency lifts significantly
  • Loyal shoppers (3+ orders): cart-rescue urgency lifts moderately
  • First-time shoppers: stronger read on "comparing price" — they shop around more

Other tools treat all shoppers the same. Recatchify reads where they came from, what they're holding, and who they are — before deciding whether to fire.
